Yarra development approved

FAIRFIELD residents have lost a bid to prevent a development near the Yarra River, although they have won some concessions. Yarra Council's internal development approvals committee last week granted a planning permit to the owner of 5 Park Crescent, Fairfield, allowing the demolition of an old building and the construction of two dwellings around 50 metres from the river. While residents were disappointed, they did get an amendment that will see the land nearest the Yarra be common property rather than sub-divided. They still plan to lobby Planning Minister and local MP Mary Delahunty.
