Locals object strongly
YARRA Council has received a record level of objections to a controversial development in Smith Street.
"There's been 1300 official objectors and another 500 on petition, it's a stunning level of objections," said Dominik Kucera of the Collingwood Action Group (CAG).
This compares to around 300 objections for the 'cheese grater' development in Fitzroy.
The council has to make a decision on the matter by early July.
Whatever decision it makes the case is likely to go to Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, with developer Banco and the CAG set to dig in their heels.
The large development, which includes eight level towers, is seen as a major test of the State Government's planning blueprint, Melbourne 2030.
