COLLINGWOOD ACTION GROUP: LETTERS TO EDITOR
CAG letters to Melbourne Times, Yarra Leader - Come to CAG rally 4th March 1pm & Say NO to Banco!
Dear Editor
Last week Planning Minister Rob Hulls gave the go-ahead for developer Banco to build its monster development on Smith Street and Little Oxford Street, Collingwood. Banco can now raze almost half a block from near the Grace Darling to the Old Post Office and destroy heritage buildings to build 3 high-rise towers of 8, 7 and 5 storeys; 161 apartments; a shopping mall with a 200 seat café, 10 shops and 24 hour supermarket; and a 3 level basement car park with 411 car spaces. Wonder how this can happen after a record 1500 objections to Banco's original plans and Council's refusal of their planning application last year? Want to protest this decision and say no to the Chapel-Streetizing of Smith Street? Then come to Collingwood Action Group's public rally at 1:00 pm on Saturday 4th March outside the Banco site on 154 Smith Street (near 'Go-Lo'). We can still make a difference! Community campaigns saved the Abbotsford Convent and Clifton Hill's 'House of the Gentle Bunyip' from developers. Roll up and send the message: Say no to Banco!
